UK

  1. Not really, because just like every other person they can take a plane or a boat to somewhere else…. I think other country's has just as much influence on them like other country's has an influence on Norway.
  2.  I would live in London, because SHOPPING!

I have learned:
-The capitals of the UK countries : Edinburgh, London, Cardiff, Belfast, (And Dublin)
-I've learned the name of some rivers and lakes, loch ness, the lake district,  the Clyde etc.
-I've learned about oceans and islands, Irish sea. Hebrides.

English as a world language

Checkpoints
1.      Lingua franca is communication between 2 people who are not native speakers.
2.      Because there is only 350 million people that speaks English as their first language and English is spoken by 1.2-1.5 billion people.
3.      Queen Elisabeth 1 started to build the British Empire.
4.      After ww1 and ww2, Britain had no longer the position as the world’s leading power.
5.      The language is always under development in different directions, and we are all causing it because of different ways of spelling, pronunciation, grammar etc.

Viewpoints
1.      We (Henriette and I) thinks that it’s possible that English takes over the Norwegian language when the generation above us dies. Because the younger generations is exposed for English daily and getting better at it.

1.      How many years have passed since the Romans left Britain? What significance did their withdrawal from Britain have for the development of the English language?
-The romans left Britain for 1500 years ago.

2.      Which capabilities did the English language have since it managed to conquer the world?
- English has shown some unique abilities to absorb, evolve, invade and steal words from other languages.

3.      How many languages has English adopted words from?
-over 350 languages.

4.      What is the total number of English speakers?
-1.2 – 1.5 billion people

5.      How many speak it as their mother tongue?
-a quarter of them (1/4)

6.      How many speak it as a second language?
-the other quarter of them

7.      What problems does English present for a learner?
-the grammar, spelling and pronunciation

8.      In which context is Singlish, Hinglish and Chinglish mentioned? Where do you find these accents and why is it necessary to give these accents individual names?
-Singlish is spoken in Singapore, Hinglish is Hindi English and Chinglish is spoken in China.

9.      Why do you think the lecturer suggests that if somebody should think up a new word for English, “it should be in Chinese”?
- Because English has so little to do with England these days, it might as well get a Chinese name. Also because there is a type of Chinese English as well.

At the zebra crossing the lollipop lady directed us to take a diversion, but my lorry was out of patrol and it was impossible.
-        At the transitional fields the (lollipop lady) directed us to take another way, but my truck was out of gas and it was impossible.
